Back in the 1960s, supercars were aluminum shells, with supermodel curves, organic shapes that looked like they had been sculpted from marble. However, in Italy, a new generation of designers was working around the clock on radical new ideas that seemed to come straight out of the future. Thus began the era of the otherworldly concept cars of the 70s, which were basically wedges on wheels, all angles and edges with skins stretched between them. The roof heights were lowered, you were almost sitting on the floor, the windshields and hoods shared the same flat level. Always with a V12 beast that felt like it was screaming right behind your head. Many of these concepts have been forgotten by most people, but one became the poster on the wall of every boy in the 1980s. It is hard to underestimate the influence these cars had on popular culture, not just in car design, but in science fiction movies, fighter jets, speedboats, and many other recognizable forms in our lives. The UFO is our celebration of dreaming big and radical changes.
