Back in the 1960s, supercars were aluminum shells, with supermodel curves, organic shapes that looked like they were sculpted from marble. However, in Italy, a new generation of designers was working around the clock on radical new ideas that seemed to be coming straight from the future. Thus began the era of the otherworldly concept cars of the 70s, which were basically wedges on wheels, all angles and edges with the skins stretched between them. Roof heights were lowered, you almost sat on the floor, the windshields and hoods shared the same level. Always with a V12 beast that felt like it was roaring right behind your head. Many of these concepts have been forgotten by most people, but one became the poster on the wall of every boy in the 80s. It’s hard to underestimate the influence these cars had on popular culture, not only in car exteriors but in science fiction movies, fighter jets, speedboats, and many other recognizable forms in our lives. The UFO is our celebration of dreaming big and radical changes.
