DESCRIPTION

Build a weather station equipped with a thermometer, wind vane, rain gauge, and anemometer! Conduct the greenhouse effect experiment.  Read the fun facts included in the instructions and learn exciting information about weather stations.

HOW IT WORKS: Your weather station is designed to measure wind, rainfall, and temperature. The anemometer and wind vane measure the wind. The cups of the anemometer catch the air and make the anemometer spin. The faster it spins, the higher the wind speed. The compass contains a magnetized metal disk. Its magnetic poles are aligned with the letters N and S, indicating north and south. The disk spins, so the poles point toward the Earth's magnetic fields, which are near the geographic poles of the earth. The rain gauge measures how much rain has fallen. The funnel catches the rain and helps prevent the water in the tube from evaporating. You can measure the rainfall by reading the indications on the tube.  The thermometer  measures the air temperature. The special liquid inside the bulb expands when heated, causing it to rise higher in the tube, indicating a higher temperature.
